In a big gesture by the BCCI, the members of the Indian media have been offered to travel with the Indian cricket team in the chartered flight arranged from Barbados to Delhi.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah took the initiative to rescue Indian journalists stuck in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. The Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday (June 29). All the players, their families, support staff, and the BCCI members have been restricted to the team hotel due to the hurricane which forced the closure of the airport in Barbados. Indian journalists, who were present in Barbados to cover the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados, also got stuck in the island nation as their flights got cancelled due to the weather conditions. However, the heart-warming gesture by the BCCI comes as a sigh of relief for them.
Instead of waiting for the commercial flight operations to resume, they would now be travelling back home with the champion side in the same chartered flight.
The special flight arranged by the BCCI arrived late in Barbados from the USA and as a result Team India's departure was delayed on Tuesday.
The team is now expected to land in Delhi around 6:00 AM on Thursday. Hoards of fans are expected to be at the airport to welcome the Indian team which has ended a long 13-year wait for an ICC World Cup trophy. The team could possibly meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi after arriving on Thursday morning.
