The Pakistan team has been performing poorly in major tournaments for some time now. The team was a complete flop in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup. In view of the continuous poor performance, the Pakistan Cricket Board is taking big actions one after the other. PCB recently removed former cricketers Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the post of selectors from the national team and has now also announced a new selection committee.
Pakistan Cricket Board has announced a new selection committee for the national team. Former cricketers Mohammad Yusuf and Asad Shafiq have been included in this selection committee. The captains and coaches of white ball and red ball will also be part of the selection committee. Bilal Afzal has been removed from this selection committee. He has been given a new role in PCB. He will now play the role of Advisor to Chairman.
Apart from these, 5 non-voting members have also been selected. These include Assistant Coach Azhar Mahmood, Advisor to Chairman Bilal Afzal, Manager Analytics and Team Strategy Hasan Cheema, Director of High Performance Nadeem Khan and Director of International Cricket Usman Wahala. This selection committee will select the team for the Test series to be played against Bangladesh. This series is to be played in Pakistan next month.
The Pakistan Cricket Board had issued a press release on July 11 stating that it had informed Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services would no longer be required in the formation of the National Selection Committee. Abdul Razzaq was a member of the men's and women's selection committees, while Wahab was a member of the men's selection committee. According to a report, the players whom these two players had helped did not perform well and the rest of the selection committee members also opposed them.
