India's star boxer Lovlina hails from Assam. She was born on October 2, 1997 in Baromukhia, a remote village in Golaghat district. Following in the footsteps of Mary Kom, Lovlina Borgohain has carried forward the legacy of women in Indian boxing. She comes from a poor family. Her father has fulfilled his dreams by farming. Lovlina also has two elder sisters. All three sisters started their sports career with Muay Thai (a form of kick-boxing). Then on the advice of the coach, Lovlina started boxing and made her mark in it.
In the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Lovlina Borgohain carried forward the legacy of Mary Kom and Vijender Singh by winning the bronze medal in the women's welterweight category (69 kg). With this, she became the third Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal. After this, in the year 2023, Lovlina made the country proud by becoming the world champion in the women's middleweight (75 kg) category.
Lovlina started her boxing career in 2012. Then at the age of 16, she won the Junior National Championship. After this, she won the gold medal in the India Open. After this, Lovlina did not look back and till now she has won 1 Olympic medal, 3 World Championship medals, 2 Asian Championship medals and 1 Asian Games medal.
