The Zimbabwe tour is over. Now prepare for the next tour. Team India's next tour is of Sri Lanka. Team India can be announced soon for this tour starting from 27th July. But, before that the question is how many players who won the series in Zimbabwe will be on this tour and how many will not? The question is also how many of those players will get a chance, who are not a part of Team India on the Zimbabwe tour?
Team India toured Zimbabwe under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. India won this 5-match T20 series 4-1, which ended on July 14. This was India's first series win under Gill's captaincy. This series saw the debut of 4-5 Indian players. Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Tushar Deshpande made their international debut on this tour, while Dhruv Jurel made his T20 debut. Overall, most of the players in Team India that went on the Zimbabwe tour were new. Or were those who did not have much exposure to international cricket.
Now the question is what will be the team for the Sri Lanka tour? Apart from the Indian selectors, the answer to this question can also depend to a great extent on the new head coach Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir is going to take charge of Team India as the head coach from the Sri Lanka tour. India has to play a 3-match ODI and T20 series on the Sri Lanka tour.
After Rohit's retirement, Hardik Pandya can now be seen captaining the T20 series. At the same time, there is still suspense about who will take charge of the ODIs. This is because Rohit will not be a part of the team on the Sri Lanka tour. And there is a question between KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya about who will take his place.
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer may return from the Sri Lanka tour. Both these players are already out of Team India before the T20 World Cup 2024. Apart from these, Suryakumar Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant, who did not go on the Zimbabwe tour, may return to the team.
Now if all the players are seen returning for the Sri Lanka tour, then it is obvious that the same number of players who played the series in Zimbabwe may have to be out of the team. The players of the Zimbabwe series who may not get a place in the Sri Lanka tour may include Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Tushar Deshpande.
The players from the Zimbabwe tour who can also make their place in the team for the Sri Lanka tour can include Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh and Shivam Dubey.
