The issue of captaincy always remains in Indian cricket. Whether it is Team India or First Class Cricket, there has always been tussle, surprising changes and controversies regarding captaincy. Indian Premier League is also no different from this, where captaincy issues are always in the headlines since the first season. Even after the completion of 17 years of the league, the situation has not changed and before the start of the new season, a change in the leadership of some teams is certain. In this, most eyes will be on Lucknow Super Giants, whose captain KL Rahul had a dispute with the team owner in the last season. Now a veteran player who played for Lucknow under Rahul's captaincy has openly announced that a new captain may come in the new season.
During a match last season, there was a dispute between Lucknow owner Sanjiv Goenka and captain Rahul. At that time also it was being speculated that Rahul would not captain the team in the remaining matches of the season but this did not happen and he took charge of the team for the entire season. However, even after this the question remains whether he will remain the captain of the team in IPL 2025 as well? Will he remain in the team or not? These questions have arisen because there is a mega auction to be held before the new season, in which a lot can change.
While common fans and experts are giving their own arguments, experienced leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who played under Rahul's captaincy in Lucknow, openly said that the franchise will see a new captain in the next season. In a YouTube interview, Amit Mishra talked about different captains from Team India to IPL. During this, when Lucknow Super Giants were discussed, Mishra clearly said that the franchise will go for a completely new captain. When Mishra was asked whether the franchise will keep Rahul as the captain in the next season or will go for a better option, Mishra said directly without hesitation that the franchise will go for a better option.
Amit Mishra says LSG will look for a better captain than KL Rahul and as per him Shubman Gill should not be India's captain as he seemed clueless after watching him from close quarters in IPL. pic.twitter.com/rNNXO3hSoe

The Lucknow franchise made its debut in the IPL in 2022 and Rahul was made the captain of the team in the very first season. Under Rahul's captaincy, the franchise competed for 3 consecutive years, out of which the team reached the playoffs in the first and second years but failed in the third season i.e. IPL 2024. During this, Rahul's captaincy and batting were again under question. In the same season, after the shocking defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team owner Sanjiv Goenka openly reprimanded Rahul, which created a lot of uproar and Goenka was criticized.
