Pat Cummins has definitely got a break from the Australian team. But his work is still going on. As a bowler, Cummins' job is to take wickets, which he is doing very well. After getting rest from the Australian team selected for the white ball series against England, Pat Cummins reached America, where he created a stir in his very first match of the Major League Cricket being played in T20 format. Now when Cummins' first victim is a batsman who has scored 21 centuries, then there will definitely be a stir. Cummins is a part of San Francisco Unicorn in Major League Cricket.
In MLC 2024, San Francisco Unicorns faced Seattle Orcas on 15th July. Although this was the fourth match of San Francisco team this season, but for Pat Cummins, this was his first match in this league. San Francisco batted first in the match, in which Pat Cummins also contributed 6 runs while remaining unbeaten. But, everyone knows that what Cummins specializes in is his bowling. In such a situation, when the ball came in his hand, the effect was also visible.
Seattle Orcas' openers Ryan Rickelton and Shehan Jayasuriya came out to chase the target of 166 runs set by San Francisco. Both of them put on a show at the crease and were perhaps seen creating an atmosphere of victory for Seattle Orcas. San Francisco bowler Liam Plunkett broke the partnership by dismissing Rickelton. After this, Quinton de Kock also came and went cheaply. But the danger was not over yet because Shehan Jayasuriya, who was attacking rapidly, was still at the crease.
Pat Cummins ended this threat looming over San Francisco. He took his first wicket in Major League Cricket by taking the wicket of Shehan Jayasuriya. Shehan Jayasuriya hit 54 runs in 37 balls at a strike rate of 145.94, which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. The way he was playing, if he had stayed for a little longer, he could have taken the match away from the reach of the San Francisco team. Talking about Pat Cummins' overall bowling in the match, he gave 35 runs in 4 overs and took 1 wicket.
Troubled by not getting many opportunities in the Sri Lankan cricket team, Shehan Jayasuriya settled in America with his entire family in 2021 and started playing cricket there. Before going to America, he played 12 ODIs and 18 T20s for Sri Lanka. While playing cricket in Sri Lanka and for Sri Lanka, he has scored more than 10000 runs with 21 centuries. Out of these 21 centuries, he scored 11 in first class cricket. 9 have been scored in List A cricket. Whereas, 1 century is registered in his name in T20.
