In India, there have been frequent cases of 'age fraud' i.e. playing under false pretenses in different sports. This problem has been going on for many years, due to which many players are not able to get proper opportunities. This problem is most prevalent in Indian cricket, which is seen at every level of domestic cricket. Some players have even been punished for this, but till date no one has openly accepted it. Now former Team India spinner Amit Mishra has openly accepted his 'age fraud' and said that his coach did this to start his cricket career.
Amit Mishra is currently in the news due to an interview given to a YouTube channel. In this interview, the former spinner talked about many issues, in which he has made headlines due to his statements about Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. In this interview, Amit Mishra also made a revelation that no cricketer makes in front of the camera like this. Amit Mishra admitted that he too has done age fraud and played cricket by telling a younger age than his real age.
Amit Mishra, who has played many Test and ODI matches for Team India, is currently 41 years old but this leg spinner said that his actual age is different. Referring to the joke about age during an IPL match with Rohit Sharma, the experienced bowler openly told that there is a fraud of one year in his age and all this was done by his coach. This was at the time when Mishra had not even made his debut for Team India. In the interview, he told that there were many problems going on at home and he had asked his family for just one more year to play cricket. In such a situation, his coach said that this is the last chance to play Under-19 and hence from today he has become one year younger, in this way he got 2 more years.
Mishra also said that age fraud is common in cricket and many big players have done this. Mishra made his debut for Team India at the age of 22. He started his international career in ODI cricket in 2003 against South Africa and made a place in the team in all three formats in the next few years. However, he could never play consistently and often had to be out of the team. Overall, Mishra played 22 Test matches, in which he got 76 wickets, while he took 64 wickets in 36 ODI matches. Apart from this, 16 wickets also came in the bag of Amit Mishra in 10 T20 matches.
