Former Team India all-rounder Roger Binny is celebrating his 69th birthday today (19 July). Roger Binny was born on 19 July 1955 in Bangalore. He was the first Anglo-Indian player to play for Team India. Let us tell you, Roger Binny has played an important role in the success of Indian cricket. India won its first World Cup in 1983. Roger Binny emerged as a hero for Team India in the 1983 World Cup. Roger Binny was the highest wicket-taker in that World Cup with 18 wickets. After retiring from cricket, Roger Binny made coaching his career. He was the coach of the team that won the Under-19 World Cup for India in the year 2000. The Indian team, adorned with stars like Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh, performed well in the Under-19 World Cup and won the trophy. Binny had said at that time for Yuvraj that he will earn a lot of fame. These players also showed excellent performance in many matches for the senior team. This time also Team India won the T20 World Cup title, so Roger Binny is the BCCI President, so the credit for this victory also goes to him. Apart from this, his son Stuart Binny has also played for Team India. Stuart Binny got a chance in the team when Roger Binny was the selector of the Indian team in the year 2014.
Roger Binny made his debut in a Test match against Pakistan in 1979 and started his international career. After this, Roger Binny participated in 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for Team India during 1979-87. Binny took 47 wickets in his Test career at an average of 3.63. In ODIs, he has 77 wickets to his name at an average of 29.35. He also has 830 runs in Tests and 629 runs in ODIs to his name.
