By stumps on the second day of the second Test match being played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, West Indies scored 351 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 84 overs in the first innings against England with the help of Kavem Hodge's century. Currently, the West Indies team is just 65 runs behind England's score. By the end of the second day's play, Holder was playing with 23 (67) and Joshua Da Silva with 32 (35) runs.
However, the credit for West Indies' comeback in this match goes to young batsman Kavem Hodge. Kavem Hodge scored the most runs in the first innings for West Indies. He scored a century of 120 runs with the help of 19 fours in 171 balls. He scored the first century of his Test career in 143 balls. Hodge along with Alick Athanase made a brilliant partnership of 175 (225) runs for the fourth wicket.
However, this innings was not that easy for Hodge because on the second day of this Test, pacer Mark Wood was bowling fiercely and he started his first over of the day with a record. Wood came to bowl in the 10th over of the innings and bowled the slowest ball in this over at the speed of 148.38 KMPH. The first ball of Mark Wood's over was at the speed of 150.15 Kmph. The second ball was bowled at 154.65 Kmph, the third ball at 153.20 Kmph and the fourth ball at 148.38 Kmph. The fifth ball of the over was the fastest which he bowled at a speed of 155.30 Kmph. The speed of the sixth and last ball was 153.20 Kmph.
With this, he made a special record in his name. This was the fastest first over bowled by an England player in Test cricket. Also, this was the fastest over bowled by an English player on English soil. Hodge was also stunned by Wood's speedy bowling and he also revealed this after the match.
After the day's play, Hodge revealed that he jokingly told the English pacer, “I have a wife and kids at home. It was brutal bowling. It's not every day you face someone who is bowling at over 90 mph every ball. At one point I jokingly told him, 'Hey, I have a wife and kids at home.' But I think that made the hundred more satisfying. I was shocked. I thought I would get hit before him, but it didn't happen. But congratulations to him for making a good comeback.”
