According to a report from Times of India, the former Indian batter, who also served as the interim head coach, has been approached by LSG for a coaching or mentor role ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
The report also adds that Laxman has already held talks with the Sanjeev Goenka-owned franchise, which already has former Australian coach Justin Langer in the head coach role. Laxman may have been approached to fill the mentor role vacated by Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir served as the mentor of LSG for the team's first two seasons before leaving to Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2024. The role was left vacant as LSG finished outside the playoff spots earlier this year.
Now, a report as emerged that Laxman could be headed to the Lucknow-based side to fill in the void left by Gambhir, who recently took over as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.
LSG may be looking to add Laxman to their backroom as they lacked a big Indian presence in their support staff last season. Laxman has IPL experience already, having served in roles at Sunrisers Hyderabad till he replaced Rahul Dravd at NCA in November 2021.
As per another report in Sports Tak, Laxman does not want to extend his stint at NCA with his tenure set to end in September. So, Board of Control for Cricket in India has lined up former batting coach Rathour to take over the role at NCA in Bengaluru.
"It is very likely that you may see Rathour heading NCA. For now, a call on VVS Laxman's contract renewal is pending, but the conversation from his side is not positive," the source was quoted as saying.
Rathour, who was roped in as batting coach in 2019, served in the role first under Ravi Shastri till 2021 and then under Dravid before their contracts ended following the T20 World Cup last month.
