Jasprit Bumrah, arguably the best all-format cricketer of India at the moment, has already been declared a legend at the age of 30. His extraordinary effort in the final of T20 World Cup 2024 played an extremely crucial role when South Africa needed just 30 off 30 to beat India.
The right-arm pacer finished the ICC showpiece even as the joint second-highest wicket-taker. He picked 15 wickets at an average of 8.26 and a mind-boggling economy rate of 4.17. It was the best for any bowler in the competition with more than 10 wickets and five matches. During the felicitation ceremony of Team India at the Wankhede Stadium after the T20 World Cup 2024 win, Virat Kohli had special mention for Bumrah. The star batter termed him a "generational" bowler for his extraordinary efforts across formats. Bumrah definitely is a once-in-a-generation bowler and former India legend Kapil Dev proved it with his point during his recent conversation with CricBlogger. The 1983 World Cup-winning captain reckoned that even if Bumrah bowls at 140 kmph, the batters feel like facing deliveries coming at a speed of 150 kmph. Explaining the interesting revelation, Kapil Dev said the late release from Bumrah adds the extra 10 kmph, giving very less reaction time to the batters. The mastery in the specific art has made him an unplayable bowler. "Bumrah might be bowling at 140 km/hr but when the batter is actually facing him, it is nearly 150 km/hr. This is possible because he releases the ball late and the batters get little less time to adjust when the ball is released so late. Eventually, it becomes 150 km/hr because the reaction of the batters will have to be that quick to negotiate someone like him," Kapil Dev told CricBlogger during a tete-tete in his office in New Delhi. "Even I had a top-arm release but if you look at Bumrah, he releases the ball quite late and that makes it difficult for the batters to negotiate him," Kapil Dev added. Jasprit Bumrah is currently on a break from cricket after India's victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. He was not named in the India squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series in Sri Lanka.
