Rahul is well-placed to succeed Faf du Plessis as the next skipper of the franchise, with a report from Dainik Jagran saying that the relationship between the Karnataka-born batter and the LSG top-brass having worsened after his public spat with owner Sanjiv Goenka last season.
At the same time, RCB are keen to reunite with Rahul, who has represented them previously as well.

Rahul has played 132 matches in the IPL, aggregating 4683 runs at an average of 45.47 and strike rate of 134.61. He has notched 37 half-centuries and four tons, slamming 400 fours and 187 maximums.
His best season as a batter came in 2018, which was also his maiden campaign with the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Back then, he had notched 659 runs in 14 games at an average of 54.91. Rahul struck runs at 158.41 with the help of six half-centuries, smashing 66 fours and 32 sixes.
Rahul's form in T20 cricket has taken a dip ever since the conclusion of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He has not been a part of the Indian's team's scheme of things in the shortest format since. Simultaneously, his form in the IPL has not been exactly impressive either, with criticisms arising over his strike rate.
In 2024, he scored 520 runs in 14 games, averaging 37.14 and striking at 136.13. He had a stellar season with RCB in 2016, batting in the middle-order. They had finished runners-up in that campaign, with Rahul contributing with 397 runs at a strike rate of nearly 147.
