Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, answered many questions in his first press conference. During this, he also made it clear that if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli maintain their fitness, then they can also play the 2027 World Cup. Different experts had different opinions on this statement of Gambhir.
Meanwhile, former India opener and former BCCI chief selector Chris Srikkanth also shared his views on this. Srikkanth believes that Virat Kohli's fitness is good and he can play the 2027 World Cup but Rohit Sharma will be 40 years old at that time and he should not play the World Cup.
During a discussion with his son Anirudh on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth said, “He (Rohit) is a good player, but he is 37 years old right now and the next ODI World Cup is after three years. He will be 40 years old then. You cannot play a World Cup at the age of 40. Yes, in my opinion Virat Kohli can definitely play in the 2027 World Cup. But for Rohit, Mr Gambhir, you have crossed the limit. He will faint in South Africa.”
Let us tell you that the 2027 World Cup is to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia and India is one of the best teams in the race to win the tournament. However, Srikkanth's words are true because by the time the 2027 World Cup starts, Rohit Sharma will be 40 and Virat Kohli will be 39 years old and it will be interesting to see whether they will be in the race for selection at that time or not. Currently, both the veterans are preparing for the three ODIs against Sri Lanka which are starting from August 2.
