On over 100 boats, more than 10,000 Olympic participants will be sailing down the Seine, passing by some of the most famous sites in Paris, including Notre Dame, the Pont des Arts, the Pont Neuf, and more.
Starting at the Austerlitz Bridge next to the Jardin des Plantes, this floating procession will culminate at the Trocadero, where the last Olympic-related ceremonies and performances will take place.
It is anticipated that the event would last over three hours.
As creative director, French theater director and actor Thomas Jolly is in charge of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies.
The Indian contingent will be led by two-time Olympian PV Sindhu and multiple Olympic, Commonwealth, and Asian Games medallist Achanta Sharath Kamal, who will carry the tricolour in their hands as they lead the flag-bearers.
India hopes to surpass its record seven medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which included javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra’s historic first-ever gold in the sport of athletics. In all, 112 participants from 16 different disciplines will compete in 69 events while donning the tricolor. Additionally, five reserve athletes will compete.
In keeping with the Indian flag, female athletes will be clothed in matching sarees, while males will be clad in traditional kurta-bundi combinations. The clothing includes Banarasi brocade and designs with Ikat influences.
