Sri Lanka vs India 1st T20I: On Saturday, July 27, the first match of the 3-match T20 series was played between Sri Lanka and India in Pallekele, in which Team India won by 43 runs. During this match, there was an incident which refreshed the memories of the World Cup final played in 2019 in the minds of the fans. In that match, the umpire made a big mistake, due to which New Zealand had to suffer by losing the World Cup trophy. However, this time the umpire did not make a mistake in the decision and the runs were given as per the rules.
Actually, Sri Lanka was moving ahead very strongly while chasing the target given by India. Meanwhile, Pathum Nissanka played the first ball of the 12th over of the innings towards square leg and ran for 2 runs. The fielder present on that side threw the ball, which hit the stumps at the non-strike end and went to the boundary. In such a situation, everyone thought that Sri Lanka would probably get 6 runs, because they had taken 2 runs by running and then a four came on the overthrow. However, the third umpire checked the run out due to direct hit and at the same time also saw whether the batsmen had crossed each other at the time of the throw by the fielder or not. The replay showed that the batsmen had not crossed each other, due to which the third umpire gave only 5 runs to Sri Lanka.
There was a big mistake in the final of the 2019 World Cup
A similar incident was seen in the ODI World Cup final played in 2019, when England needed 9 runs in 3 balls. During that time, while taking the second run, the ball hit Ben Stokes' bat and went to the boundary and umpire Kumar Dharmasena gave 6 runs to England. Due to this, the match was tied despite only 2 runs coming in the next two balls. After this, the super over was also tied and the result was decided on the basis of boundary count, in which England won and New Zealand had to be disappointed.
