While ruling himself out of the 2026 Asian Games, Bopanna said, 'This was definitely my last tournament for the country. I fully understand the situation I am in. I will enjoy tennis now when I can play. Where I am is a huge achievement for me. I never thought that I would represent India at a very high level for more than 20 years. Debut in 2002 and today, 22 years after that, I have been representing my country in the Olympics. I am very proud of this historic career.'
Rohan Bopanna won many big tournaments during his career. This was his third Olympics. Earlier, he missed out on winning an Olympic medal in 2016. Then his and Sania Mirza's pair finished fourth in the mixed event. Let us tell you, he will now continue his pro career. The year 2024 was very good for him. In January this year, he was successful in securing the first position in doubles in the ATP rankings and Bopanna is also the oldest player to reach here. Bopanna also has two Grand Slam titles to his name. He won the French Open title in 2017 with Canada's Gabriel Dabrowski. After this, this year he won his second Grand Slam as men's doubles at the Australian Open. Then Bopanna along with Australia's Matthew Ebdon defeated the pair of Italy's Simone Bolelli-Andres Vavasan in the final.
Bopanna described the fifth Davis Cup match against Brazil in 2010 as his most memorable match for the national team. He said, 'This is definitely my best moment so far, there is no doubt that moment in Chennai and then winning the match against Serbia in five sets in Bangalore was also a memorable occasion. The atmosphere in the team at that time was great. Playing with Leander Paes, playing with Mahesh Bhupathi as captain was an amazing experience. At that time, I and Samdev Devvarman used to play singles and we all competed with all our heart, it was unbelievable.
