Many high scoring matches were seen during IPL 2024. Due to which a voice was raised against this rule. Many experts believe that the existence of all-rounders is in danger due to the impact player rule. At the same time, many players like Rohit Sharma and David Miller had given statements against the impact player rule. Let us tell you, the impact player rule is used only in Indian cricket. It was implemented from the year 2023 IPL.

What is the impact player rule?

The impact player rule was implemented for the first time in IPL 2023. Under this rule, 12 players can play in the match instead of 11. Actually, according to the impact player rule, after the toss, both the teams have to give the names of five players apart from their playing eleven, out of which one they want to use as an impact player. The batting and bowling team can use this player at any time in the match. At the same time, the replaced player does not return to the playing 11.

Apart from this, as per the rules of IPL, only 4 foreign players can play in the playing-11. In such a situation, if there are already three foreign players in the playing-11, then the fourth foreign player can be included as an impact player. But if a team already has 4 foreign players in its playing-11, then the 5th foreign player cannot be included.
