The Indian hockey team has registered its second win in the Paris Olympics 2024 with a strong performance. Captain Harmanpreet Singh's team, which had drawn 1-1 against Argentina in the last match, made a strong comeback in their third match of the pool stage and won 2-0 against Ireland without any trouble. The star of Team India's victory was once again captain Harmanpreet, who scored both the goals. At the same time, veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who is playing his last Olympics, made a significant contribution to the team's victory by saving many shots in the second half. With this win, the team has jumped from third place to first place in Pool B.

The Indian team had made a strong start by defeating New Zealand 3-2 in its first match. Then in the next match, it had to play a 1-1 draw against Argentina. In both these matches, captain Harmanpreet scored in the last minutes and turned the match in favor of Team India. This time too, Harmanpreet scored the decisive goals, but against Ireland, both the goals were scored in the first half instead of the last minutes.

Team India got the lead right from the start

Coach Craig Fulton's Team India showed aggressive attitude from the beginning and started the match on the front foot and kept the pressure on Ireland's defense. The team got the result of this when Ireland's goalkeeper fouled India's forward Gurjant Singh inside the circle. In such a situation, India got a penalty stroke and in the 11th minute captain Harmanpreet scored a goal without making any mistake. After leading 1-0 in the first quarter, Team India entered the second quarter with confidence and soon doubled its lead. India got a penalty corner in the 19th minute and again Harmanpreet hit the goal accurately with her drag flick, putting India ahead 2-0.

Team India on top

After this, however, none of India's efforts were successful and Ireland stopped India from a bigger win. Ireland itself fired some shots on the Indian goal in the third and fourth quarters but the entire defense line including Sreejesh stood like a strong wall and stopped Ireland from making a comeback. India now has 7 points from 3 matches and has reached the first position. However, Belgium and Australia, who are in the second and third positions, have played only 2-2 matches and have 6-6 points. India's next match will now be against the defending champion Belgium on August 1.
