After suffering the pain of a clean sweep in the T20 series from Team India, now the Sri Lankan team would like to make a comeback in the ODI series but it has suffered two major setbacks even before the start of this series. Two of its best fast bowlers are out due to injury. Fast bowler Dilshan Madhushanka has a strained leg muscle while Pathirana suffered an injury in his right shoulder during the T20 series. Now two young fast bowlers have been included in the Sri Lankan team in place of these two players. Sri Lanka has included fast bowlers Mohammed Shiraz and Ishan Malinga in the team.
Mohammad Shiraz is a right-arm fast bowler. This 29-year-old fast bowler has been showing his prowess in Sri Lankan domestic cricket for the last 8 years. Shiraz has an amazing record in List A cricket. He has taken 80 wickets in 47 matches and his economy rate is just 4.57 runs per over. In the last match, Shiraz won the match for his team by taking 6 wickets for just 21 runs, which is the best performance in his career. Shiraz has the ability to inswing the ball and he can trouble Indian opener Rohit Sharma and especially Shubman Gill a lot. This batsman has a lot of trouble with inswing.
Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka will not take part in the ODI series as the players have sustained injuries.
Dilshan Madushanka suffered a left hamstring injury (Grade 2), the player sustained during fielding at practices.
