Virat Kohli batted with full intensity under the watchful eyes of newly-appointed India head coach Gautam Gambhir in the net session ahead of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka which starts on August 2 in Colombo.
Virat Kohli looked fresh and hungry as he aims to make an impressive comeback to action. In a video posted by the BCCI on Thursday, August 1, the former India captain could be seen sending a Kuldeep Yadav-delivery flying over mid-wicket for a six. Gambhir looked mighty impressed as he closely watched the ball sail outside the ground. Virat Kohli also spent a long time chatting with Gambhir. The duo also closely watched KL Rahul bat in the nets. Captain Rohit Sharma also looked in full swing, and did not hold himself while facing Kuldeep and Harshit Rana. Shreyas Iyer bowls in net session ahead of Sri Lanka ODIs The video also showed Shreyas Iyer trying to execute a reverse sweep before rolling his arms in the gruelling net session. Iyer is returning to the Indian squad for the first time after being dropped from BCCI's central contract list.
Gautam Gambhir was all smiles after watching the small bunch of India players showing no signs of rustiness despite not playing any cricket in the last few months. While, Kohli, Rohit and Kuldeep were part of India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Harshit Rana were last in action in the IPL 2024. Players, who were part of the preceding T20I series against Sri Lanka, were not spotted in the evening practice session. India won the T20I series 3-0 under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav. The likes of Surya, Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh are not part of the ODI squad.
