Indian Premier League's big team Delhi Capitals will soon be seen showing its prowess in England as well. According to reports, Delhi Capitals co-owner GMR Group is going to buy a large stake in the English county team. It is being told that an agreement has been reached between the owners of Hampshire and Delhi Capitals and for this they will spend 120 million pounds. This amount is approximately Rs 1278 crore in Indian currency. If this happens, Hampshire will become the first county team owned by a foreign entity. With this, GMR Group will have control over 51 percent of the shares of this team. Rishabh Pant is the captain of Delhi Capitals in IPL.
Apart from Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Supergiants team was also interested in buying Hampshire but it could not happen. According to the report of The Telegraph, Delhi Capitals defeated Lucknow Supergiants in the bid. Apart from this, GMR Group will also have control of Utilita Bowl Stadium, Hilton Hotel and a golf course at the same place.
Apart from IPL, Delhi Capitals also owns teams in ILT and Major League Cricket. It has stakes in Dubai Capitals and Seattle Orcas. Now Hampshire County team is also going to come under Delhi Capitals. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Hampshire Club officials and the new owners will soon make an official announcement about this deal.
Indian players can also benefit from this deal of Delhi Capitals. After this acquisition, it is expected that Hampshire will also get access to some young players of Delhi Capitals for domestic tournaments like The Hundred. However, BCCI does not allow active Indian cricketers to play in foreign tournaments. By the way, another county team Yorkshire is also trying to make a deal with Rajasthan Royals. It is clear that the dominance of IPL teams is now visible in every domestic tournament around the world.
