Indian team's fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been away from the field since the World Cup 2023. He was troubled by a leg injury during the ODI World Cup played in November 2023 last year. After which he underwent a successful surgery for the ankle injury in February 2024. He is currently working hard at the National Cricket Academy to return to the field. Mohammed Shami is currently in Bengal. Recently Shami was felicitated by East Bengal Club in Kolkata. During this, while talking about his comeback, he said that he can play domestic cricket before returning to Team India. Speaking at the same felicitation ceremony, Shami said, 'It is difficult to say when I will return. I am working very hard but before wearing the Indian jersey again, you will see me in Bengal's jersey. I will come to play 2-3 matches for Bengal and will come fully prepared. This means that Shami can be seen playing for the Bengal team in the upcoming domestic season.
Talking about his injury, Shami said, 'I never thought that the injury would be so serious. Our plan was to take care of it after the T20 World Cup. But it became more serious during the ODI World Cup and I did not take the risk of playing with it. Even the doctors did not think that the injury would be so serious and it would take so much time to heal.' Let us tell you, Shami was the most successful bowler of the 2023 ODI World Cup. He took 24 wickets in 7 matches and led Team India to the final.
Mohammad Shami has played 64 Tests, 101 ODIs and 23 T20 matches for Team India so far. He has taken 229 wickets in Tests, 195 wickets in ODIs and 24 wickets in T20s. During this time, he has achieved the feat of taking 5 wickets in an innings 11 times. Shami has also scored 970 runs in international cricket, which includes 2 half-centuries.
