Exactly three years ago, it was the day of 4 August, when the Indian team defeated Germany in the Tokyo Olympics and won the bronze medal match and ended a 41-year drought. The star of that victory of Team India was the legendary goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who stopped many good shots. Especially in the last 2-3 minutes, he gave India a memorable victory by foiling many penalty corners. Once again it was the day of 4 August, it was an Olympic match and then the wall named Sreejesh gave India a sensational victory. In the quarter-finals of Paris Olympics 2024, Team India defeated Great Britain 4-2 in the penalty shootout and made it to the semi-finals. Sreejesh, who is playing his last Olympics, shone once again in this victory.
The quarterfinal match was played between India and Great Britain in Paris on Sunday, 4th August. Three years ago also India had defeated Britain in the quarterfinal. Then India had won 3-1 but this time the match was more tough. The reason for this was that Team India played with only 10 players because Amit Rohidas was shown a red card and was sent off in the second quarter. Despite this, Team India scored the first goal and then kept the match tied at 1-1 till the entire 60th minute.

If the scoreline remained 1-1, then it was because of Sreejesh, because he foiled many attacks of England. India's defense line also contributed to this, but there were some occasions when England crossed the defenders but Sreejesh stood like a wall in front. This can be understood better from the statistics. England fired a total of 21 shots on India's goal but they could penetrate it only once.

The remaining 20 times either the defense blocked it or Sreejesh tried his best to destroy those attacks. You can watch videos of some such saves here. Once there was an opportunity when England attacked from a penalty corner. Sreejesh first stopped that drag flick and then stopped the fast shot on the rebound with his left hand and saved India by taking the ball over the goal.

Then came the penalty shootout, where first both teams scored 2-2 goals. Then England failed in the third shot. Sreejesh covered the entire goal and put him in trouble and he shot out. India scored the third goal. In the fourth shot, Sreejesh himself stopped the England player from scoring a goal. Here Raj Kumar Pal also converted India's last shot into a goal and Team India won the match 4-2.
