It is said that a captain is the one who leads from the front. In TNPL, Ashwin has done exactly the same for Dindigul Dragons. In the final match played on August 4, it defeated Lyca Kovai Kings and won the TNPL title for the first time. Although the entire team put in effort to make Dindigul the new champion of TNPL, but the quality that was seen in captain Ashwin was not seen in anyone else. Ashwin hit a fifty in the final and scored a hat-trick of half-centuries in the knockout stage of the tournament. So, without taking many wickets with the ball, he made the opponents cry in such a way that they yearned for victory. Now the team of such a captain had to win.
Dindigul Dragons defeated Kovai Kings by 6 wickets in the final of TNPL. Batting first, Kovai Kings scored 129 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Tight bowling was seen from Dindigul Dragons. Sandeep Warrior took 2 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs. Varun Chakraborty's bowling figure was also similar. He also took 2 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs. Ashwin may not have taken a wicket with the ball in the final. But, he made the batsmen of Kovai Kings yearn for runs with his balls. He gave only 13 runs in 4 overs. Ashwin bowled 12 dot balls.
Ashwin had become the most economical bowler of Dindigul Dragons. But the job was not done yet. Because, the target of 130 runs given by Kovai Kings was yet to be achieved. After both his openers returned to the dugout on just 23 runs, Ashwin did this job very well. Coming to bat at number 3, Ashwin maintained his excellent form in the final as well and scored a strong half-century.
Ashwin's explosive innings of 52 runs in the TNPL final included more sixes than fours. His innings of 46 balls included only 1 four and 3 sixes. With this, Ashwin also completed a hat-trick of half-centuries in the knockout stage of TNPL. Earlier, while opening in Qualifier 2, he scored an unbeaten 69 runs in just 30 balls. While in the Eliminator, Ashwin scored 57 runs in 35 balls while playing at number 3.
