Team India's tour of Sri Lanka has recently ended. On this tour, a series of 3 T20 and same number of ODI matches were played between the two teams. Team India won the T20 series, while Sri Lanka defeated India after 27 years in the ODI series. But amidst this happiness, a bad news has come out for Sri Lanka. A Sri Lankan player has been accused of fixing and the International Cricket Council has sought an answer. In such a situation, now this player is in danger of being banned.

This Sri Lankan player accused of match fixing

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged Sri Lankan player Praveen Jayawickrama with three counts of violating the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. Mr. Jayawickrama has 14 days from 6 August 2024 to respond to the charges. Jayawickrama was accused of not reporting to the Anti-Corruption Unit without any reason that he was approached to fix future international matches.

Actually, Praveen Jayawickrama was asked by a corrupt person to contact another player to fix the 2021 Lanka Premier League. But he did not inform the Anti-Corruption Unit about this. Apart from this, he also obstructed the investigation of the Anti-Corruption Unit, due to which the ICC has taken this action. Apart from this, Sri Lanka Cricket and ICC have agreed that the ICC will take action in relation to the Lanka Premier League fee along with the International Match Fee.
