India's Aman Sehrawat failed to make it to the wrestling finals at the Paris Olympics 2024. Aman lost to a Japanese wrestler in just 1 minute 14 seconds in the semi-finals and with this his hopes of reaching the finals were dashed. However, despite this, Aman still has a chance to win a bronze medal. In the final, Aman was up against Japan's Rei Higuchi, the world number-1 wrestler in this category, who defeated Aman without losing a single point and made it to the finals for the second time.
Aman had performed well in his initial round matches and reached the semi-finals by defeating the 3-time world champion. The semi-finals were his toughest test and it proved impossible for him to cross it. Japan's Higuchi defeated him 10-0 without wasting any time. Higuchi had won the silver medal in the Rio Olympics 2016 in this category. He also won the silver medal in the World Championship last year.
This is the first Olympics for 21-year-old Aman Sehrawat, who hails from Jhajjar district of Haryana, and in his debut itself, this young wrestler made it to the semi-finals by performing dominatingly. He won both the bouts by 'technical superiority' (10-0). First of all, he made it to the quarter-finals by defeating Vladimir Egorov of North Macedonia 10-0 in 3 minutes 59 seconds. After this, Aman defeated Zelimkhan Abakarov of Albania even more badly in the quarter-finals. Aman defeated him 12-0 in 3.56 minutes and made it to the semi-finals.
Aman Sehrawat's journey to reach Paris Olympics was very strong as he defeated veteran wrestler Ravi Dahiya in the national trials and then got a ticket to Paris Olympics in the qualifiers. Ravi Dahiya created history by making it to the finals of this category in Tokyo Olympics and then returned with a silver medal.
