Match Fixing: Match fixing is considered one of the biggest crimes in the sports world. There was a time when there was a lot of match fixing in cricket and every day the ICC and cricket boards around the world made every effort to protect their players from it, but despite this, some player or the other was found involved in this crime. However, in the last few years, such incidents have decreased, the biggest reason for which is the strengthening of the anti-corruption unit and also the imposition of a lifetime ban on players.

At one time, four cricketers of the Indian cricket team were found involved in match fixing, after which the Board of Control for Cricket in India banned them. In this list, former Team India fast bowler S Sreesanth was banned when he was found involved in spot fixing in the IPL in 2013. After which he was banned for life.

Apart from Sreesanth, former Indian cricketers Manoj Prabhakar, Ajay Jadeja and former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin were also found involved in match fixing in the year 2000. Apart from this, Nayan Mongia was also found involved in match fixing, after which he was banned.

These foreign players were also banned

Apart from the Indian cricket team, many players from around the world were also found involved in match fixing, after which the cricket boards of the respective countries banned them. This list includes former South African cricketer Hansie Cronje who died in an air crash, five-year ban on Pakistan cricket team's Salman Butt, Afghanistan's Shafiqullah Shafaq was banned for match fixing in the Bangladesh Premier League in 2020. Along with this, Pakistan's Danish Kaneria and fast bowler Mohammad Aamir were also banned for fixing.

Why was there so much match fixing?

In earlier times, the cricket boards and the ICC did not have so many information sources and resources and the investigating officers lacked experience and skills, due to which players were not caught and along with this there were no strict laws for this.

However, later the cricket boards started taking the services of retired officials and anti-corruption was strengthened. Along with this, many more strict rules were made. At the same time, a lifetime ban was also imposed on the players. Along with this, when the players started earning money from the game itself, then they themselves distanced themselves from it.
