India finally got a wrestling medal in Paris Olympics 2024. After Vinesh Phogat's disqualification, all eyes were on Aman Sehrawat and he did not disappoint. In his debut Olympics itself, Aman won the bronze medal in the men's 57 kg weight category. Aman won this bronze medal by defeating the wrestler from Puerto Rico 13-5 in a one-sided manner in the bronze medal match and thus India got the sixth medal in the Paris Olympics. Overall, this is India's 5th bronze in these games.

At the beginning of the match, Cruz took a point by pushing Aman out of the mat. Aman also retaliated and soon scored two points by doing a leg attack. The same tough fight continued in the first period and Cruz again took a 3-2 lead but Aman again made a comeback and took a 4-3 lead by collecting 2 points. After being ahead in the first period of three minutes, Aman soon made the score 6-3 in the second period as well. After this, Aman was all the rage and he scored 7 more points, on the basis of which he won the bronze by 13-5.

Strong performance in Olympic debut

The debut was memorable for 21-year-old Aman, who was participating in the Olympics for the first time. He started brilliantly and defeated Vladimir Egorov of Macedonia 10-0 in his first bout. After this, the same feat was seen in the quarter-finals as well where he defeated Zelimkhan Abakarov of Albania 12-0 and entered the semi-finals. However, Aman had to face defeat in the semi-finals as he was facing world number-1 Rei Higuchi of Japan. Higuchi defeated Aman 10-0 and ended his hopes of reaching the final.

Aman had reached the Olympics by defeating his guru

This success of Aman is very special because India has won 2 consecutive Olympic medals in this category. Earlier, Ravi Dahiya also participated in the 57 kg category in the Tokyo Olympics. That was also Ravi's first Olympics and he won a silver medal. What is even more special is that Aman has been training with Ravi at the Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi and considers him his guru. This time he made it to the qualifiers by defeating Ravi Dahiya in the national trials and then got a ticket to the Paris Olympics.
