Due to this innings of Plessis, South Africa scored 367 runs in 50 overs. In response to which Sri Lanka team was reduced to 327 runs and the team had to face defeat by 40 runs. Plessis was given the Man of the Match award for this historic innings.

Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis' international career has been very impressive. Plessis has played 69 Tests, 143 ODIs and 50 T20 matches for the African team. Plessis has scored a total of 19948 runs in international cricket. Plessis has scored a total of 23 centuries in international cricket. Plessis retired from international cricket after the year 2021.
