The dream of becoming an Olympic champion remained unfulfilled even in Paris

In Paris, Vinesh came closest to her dream as she secured a place in the finals. Meaning, the tag of Olympic champion is now just one step away. But, fate probably had something else in store.

On the final day, before the match, Vinesh Phogat got embroiled in a controversy related to overweight and this shattered her dream of winning the gold medal and becoming an Olympic champion. Vinesh Phogat participated in the women's 50 kg category in her third Olympics played in Paris.

Injured Vinesh lost the match in Rio Olympics

Vinesh Phogat's wrestling debut on the Olympic mat began in 2016 at the Rio Olympics. That means she made her Olympic debut in Rio. Vinesh participated in the 48 kg weight category here. But, her hopes of winning a medal were dashed in the quarter-finals. This happened to Vinesh due to an injury, due to which she lost the match against China's Sun Yanan. During this wrestling, Vinesh suffered a knee injury.

Could not progress beyond quarter finals in Tokyo

Vinesh, who suffered an injury in Rio, reached the Olympics held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, in 2020 with great hopes. But, here her dreams were shattered even more badly. Vinesh's path stopped here too in the quarter-finals. She was defeated by Vanessa Kaladzinskaya. Vinesh Phogat participated in the women's 53 kg category in the Tokyo Olympics.
