The 2-match Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh will begin on Wednesday, August 21. Both matches of the series are to be played in Rawalpindi. Looking at the ability of both the teams and the venue of the series, Pakistan will be considered the contender for victory but it is not going to be that easy. The recent performance of the Pakistani team has been under question in every format. Not only the performance of the team, but the decisions related to selection have also become the reason for criticism. One such decision has been taken regarding the first Test match, due to which the career of a legendary player seems to be almost over. Pakistan announced the playing eleven for the first Test match, in which former captain and experienced wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed was not selected.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood and new test coach Jason Gillespie together prepared the team for the first test match and announced the playing eleven two days ago. First of all, it was confirmed that the Pakistani team will play this match without a main spinner and instead the team will play on the field of Pindi Cricket Stadium with 4 main fast bowlers in the playing-11. Many questions are being asked about this that what made the Pakistani team feel after 28 years that it is playing without a spinner.
Secondly, it also became clear that former veteran captain Sarfaraz Ahmed did not get a place in the playing eleven of the first Test and in his place the wicketkeeping responsibility has once again been handed over to Mohammad Rizwan Ahmed. Remember that last year itself Sarfaraz was given this responsibility in place of Rizwan and he also played 2-3 good innings, while Rizwan was struggling. Now by giving Rizwan a chance in place of Sarfaraz in the first Test match, in a way the Pakistani team management has given a message that they are looking ahead and 37-year-old Sarfaraz Ahmed is not a part of their plans.
Although Sarfaraz will still remain in the squad for this series, it is unlikely that Rizwan will be removed in case of failure in just one test. This means that this could also be Sarfaraz's last Test series, in which he seems to be out of this format forever without playing. He has already been out of the ODI and T20 team for a long time. Sarfaraz, who led Pakistan to victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy under his captaincy, has scored 3031 runs in 54 Test matches at an average of 37.41, which includes 4 centuries.
