Cheteshwar Pujara has been out of Team India for the last one year. He was last seen in the final of the World Test Championship and since then this player was showing his strength in England. Pujara performed brilliantly for Sussex in England's County Championship. But now the same team has dropped Pujara. It is reported that this Test specialist batsman will not return to the Sussex team for next year's County Championship as the England club has dropped him to retain the services of Australia's Daniel Hughes.
Pujara played for Sussex for the third consecutive time in 2024. He played the first seven championship matches before Hughes' return. The big thing is that Pujara also scored a brilliant century in the last match played for Sussex. He played an innings of 129 runs against Middlesex. Earlier, he scored 113 runs against Derbyshire. But despite such a great performance, Sussex terminated Pujara's contract.
Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace said in a statement released on the official website, 'It was not an easy task to end the contract with Cheteshwar Pujara, but Daniel Hughes fits in the team according to our needs and we are happy that he will be available for the entire next season.' Hughes scored 560 runs at an average of 43.07 in the group stage matches of this year's Blast, which includes five half-centuries. His best score was 96 runs. Hughes will be available to play in the remaining five matches of the County Championship in the current season.
Cheteshwar Pujara has not been given a place in the Duleep Trophy starting from 5th September. Now this player can be seen in the Ranji Trophy. Obviously Pujara's career is now on the decline, now it remains to be seen what is Pujara's future strategy? Cheteshwar Pujara is counted among the legendary players of Indian first class cricket. He has scored 82 centuries in professional cricket so far.
