After many days of speculation, it has finally been officially announced - Jay Shah will be the new boss of ICC. BCCI's current secretary Jay Shah has been elected unopposed for the post of ICC chairman. He will replace the current chairman Greg Barclay on this post, whose term will end in November. With Jay Shah becoming the chairman, the tension of the Pakistan Cricket Board has increased the most and the coming months may prove to be difficult for it.

Shah became the youngest ICC chairman

As the secretary of BCCI for the last 5 years, Jai Shah has made a special identity in world cricket. He has had good relations with the administrators of most of the cricket boards of the world. Due to this, Jai Shah did not face any challenge for this post. A few days ago, the ICC had announced the resignation of Greg Barclay, who was handling this responsibility for 2 consecutive terms. According to the ICC constitution, there is a provision for the chairman to get 3 consecutive terms, but New Zealand's Barclay refused the third term, after which the discussion of Jai Shah coming to this post had intensified.

The ICC had set August 27 as the last date for nomination for the post of chairman. According to the rules, if there were 2 or more candidates, elections would be held, in which the 16-member board of the ICC would vote, but in case of Jai Shah becoming the candidate, it was already clear that there would be no other contender against him because he already had the support of 14-15 members of the board. In such a situation, with the nomination on August 27, it was decided that Jai Shah would become the chairman and then the ICC also announced his name. Shah, just 35 years old, will be the youngest chairman in the history of the ICC. He will take over his term from December 1 and can remain chairman for the next 6 years.

Pakistan's trouble will increase

With Jay Shah becoming the chairman, Pakistan is getting the most tension. Already the Pakistan Cricket Board has been complaining about the dominance of the Indian Board in the ICC and has especially blamed Secretary Jay Shah for the poor condition of Pakistani cricket. Now with Shah becoming the chairman, Pakistan is getting even more worried. The biggest reason for this is the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan next year.

There are already questions over Team India going to Pakistan for this tournament, due to which the tournament is unlikely to be held completely in Pakistan, but the PCB was confident that the ICC would somehow force the BCCI to agree to this. Now, after Shah has become the chairman, with just one 'yes' from him, the Champions Trophy may have to be organized on a hybrid model or completely outside Pakistan.
