Gill, who is often touted to be the next Virat Kohli, has formed some memorable partnerships with his senior, especially in Tests and ODIs, during his brief career. Recently, a video went viral where the 35-year-old Kohli is seem berating Gill's success in the 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar, in Australia (where the right-hander made 259 runs in 3 Tests). The former Indian captain stated that the youngster has a 'long way to go' and 'cannot be the next Kohli'. However, the video has turned out to be fake.
The video has turned out to be a fake, with the voice being an AI-generated version of Kohli's. In the clip, Kohli can be seen slamming the 24-year-old Gill by saying there is a 'big gap between showing promise and becoming a legend'. In addition, it shows Kohli arrogantly claiming, 'In Indian cricket, there's god (Sachin Tendulkar) and then there's me'.

At present, Gill is gearing up to take part in the forthcoming Duleep Trophy, starting on Sep 5. He is set to lead Team A whereas the likes of Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are the notable absentees from the domestic tournament, which is a dress rehearsal for India's upcoming Test season.
