Ishan Kishan etched a unique record despite the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) being washed out due to rain, which meant the two teams shared points at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. Before rain stopped play just seconds after the first innings ended, Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bowl first.
For the first time since joining SRH, Kishan took up wicket-keeper duties, which were taken care of by Heinrich Klaasen so far, while the Indian star was stationed in the outfield. Kishan had a day to remember behind the stumps as the Sunrisers bowlers wreaked havoc over Delhi Capitals (DC), who managed to make just 133 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Earlier, they were restricted to 29-5 before a rescue act by Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma.DC's top three (Karun Nair, Faf du Plessis, and Abhishek Porel) were dismissed by Pat Cummins on the first ball of the first, third, and fifth over of the match. Each dismissal was a carbon copy of the other as Kishan took the catch behind the stumps after an edge from the batter.KL Rahul walked out to bat at number four for the Capitals and was dismissed by Jaydev Unadkat in the 8th over after he nicked an outswinger to Kishan.
Ishan Kishan Achieves Unique First
Due to the result, Kishan is only the 27th player in IPL history to take four or more catches in an IPL innings (only 3 players have taken 5 catches) and the 13th to do as the team's designated wicket-keeper.However, Kishan is now the first player in the league's 17-year-old history to take the catch of each of the top four batters of a team. Among the players to take four or more catches in an innings, Morne van Wyk (KKR VS RCB in 2009), and Adam Gilchrist (KXIP VS CSK, 2011) also took catches of three of the four batters of the top four. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis (CSK VS RCB in 2019) has come the closest, as he took the catches of the number 2, 3, 4, and 5 batters of the opposition team.
