Star batsman Darryl Mitchell became the trouble-shooter for New Zealand in the second ODI against India at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. New Zealand had a target of 285 runs, and Darryl Mitchell played an amazing inning in this chase. He completed his century in 96 balls and put the team in a strong position. This is his 8th ODI century. Darryl Mitchell loves playing against India and he scores runs every time against this team. Something similar was seen this time too.

Darryl Mitchell's memorable innings

Darryl Mitchell played this innings at an important moment. To stay in the series, New Zealand has to win this match at any cost, in such a situation Darryl Mitchell performed amazingly. With this he left Virat Kohli behind in a special matter. Just before the match, ICC had released the latest ODI batting rankings, in which Virat Kohli reached number 1 with 785 rating points. Whereas, Darryl Mitchell was in second place with 784 points, i.e. a difference of only 1 point.

But in Rajkot, Virat Kohli could score only 23 runs. The stumps were uprooted from the inner edge on a ball from Clarke, and Virat's wicket fell. This gave Mitchell an opportunity, and his century took him ahead of Virat. Now Mitchell has, in a way, become the number 1 batsman. However, the next update of the rankings will be on Wednesday, and Virat will have a chance to make a comeback in the third match.

Strong record against India

Darryl Mitchell's record against Team India is quite excellent. He has scored 50+ runs in ODI against India for the fourth consecutive time. In the last match also he had played an inning of 84 runs, but New Zealand had to face defeat. Before that, innings of 134 runs and 130 runs were seen from his bat. That means he has scored 3 centuries and 1 half-century against India in the last 4 innings.
