Arshdeep Singh has credited the Pakistan bowling attack for boosting his batting confidence in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Singh made a crucial contribution, scoring 9 runs off 13 balls with a boundary, to help India set a challenging target of 120 runs on the difficult pitch at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Arshdeep’s innings helped India secure a 6-run victory over Pakistan. The young bowler said his confidence soared after successfully taking on Pakistan’s formidable pace attack, including the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Amir, and Naseem Shah.
After India’s 7-wicket victory over the United States of America in New York on Wednesday, Singh revealed about his improved batting skills under the guidance of India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour.
“We are constantly striving to improve our skills – whether in bowling, batting, or fielding. You never know when those runs might be crucial, whether it’s 2 runs or 4. That’s why we have to give it our all. Personally, I’m working closely with Vikram Bhai to hone my batting abilities as much as possible,” said Arshdeep.
Arshdeep, who only has scored 43 runs in T20I’s urged skipper Rohit Sharma to promote him in the batting order.
“In the last game, I was originally supposed to bat after Jassi Bhai. However, I asked Rohit Sharma to send me early. This surprised them, but I’ve now told the team that I will go in to bat at number nine regardless of what they say. I want to bat at nine because I faced the fastest bowlers in the previous match. That’s the plan going forward. I’m feeling very confident about my batting. And whether it’s fielding or bowling, I’m just focused on improvement,” he continued.
Arshdeep delivered a standout performance, claiming the Player of the Match award for registering figures of 4-0-9-4. USA managed 110/8 in 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav then anchored India’s successful chase with an unbeaten 50.
