New Zealand captain Kane Williamson expressed displeasure over being eliminated from the 2024 T20 World Cup during the toss against Uganda in Trinidad.

In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Group Stage, New Zealand played their first match against Afghanistan and lost the game by 84 runs and lost their second game by 13 runs against West Indies.

With back-to-back losses New Zealand’s hopes of qualifying for the Super 8 remained thin. Adding fuel to the fire, Afghanistan advanced to the Super 8 round by beating PNG by 7 wickets and kicked New Zealand out of the race.

With West Indies already qualified for the next round, the Afghans’ qualification automatically scattered the Kiwis’ dream of qualifying for the Super 8 stage.

New Zealand cricketers and fans were left out in frustration after the Afghanistan result. Kiwis made an exit without making an impact in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

During the toss against Uganda in Brian Lara Stadium, Kane Williamson admits that the team got frustrated for not being qualified for the Super 8 stage.

“We are gonna have a bowl, wanna have a look first with the bowl. We are going with the same side as the last match. Frustrating not to get the opportunity not to get through but we have to focus on what’s in front of us”, said Kane Williamson during the toss.

Apart from the game against Uganda, New Zealand still has a match to play in the group stage. Kane Williamson and Co will play their last game of the tournament against Papua New Guinea on June 17 in Brian Lara StadiumTarouba, Trinidad.
