Ahead of India‘s Super 8 clash against Afghanistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, captain Rohit Sharma expressed his excitement for the second round.

In a video shared by the BCCI, Sharma stated the Indian team is determined to deliver something exceptional. The captain affirmed that every member of the squad is eager to make an impactful contribution.

India breezed through the group stage of the tournament without a loss. They defeated Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA in convincing fashion. Unfortunately, their final group match against Canada was called off due to rain.

“The group is eager to do something extraordinary. This demonstrates everyone’s strong desire to make a meaningful impact, as they take their training sessions very seriously. Each training session presents an opportunity to achieve something. Once the first game is played, the next two will follow in 3-4 days. This schedule may be hectic, but the team is accustomed to such demands. Frequent travel and play is the norm, so that will not be used as an excuse,” remarked Rohit in a video posted by BCCI.

After arriving in Barbados several days before their first Super 8 match, the Indian team took a brief break to enjoy the island’s beaches.

They have since returned to their rigorous training regime. The players are familiar with the conditions, having competed here before, and know what needs to be done.

“As a team, we will focus on honing our skills and executing our game plan. Having played numerous matches here, the team is well-prepared and understands their individual responsibilities. Collectively, the players are enthusiastic and eager to take the field,” he added.

India will kick off the Super 8 stage on June 20 with a match against Afghanistan in Barbados.

They will then travel to Antigua to face Bangladesh two days later, before concluding the Super 8 stage with a highly anticipated clash against Australia at St. Lucia on June 24.
