England were looking out of the game before Aiden Markram decided to hand over the ball to Ottneil Baartman, who had a good game until then. Coming back to bowl his second spell, he delivered one of the worst overs of the contest. He bowled five tosses, giving away 21 runs.

Liam Livingstone went hard against the seamer to bring back England into the game but his dominance didn’t last long as Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada and Nortje kept the line and length tight in the final three overs to win the game for their country by 7 runs.

It was South Africa’s second consecutive win in the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. After beating the United States of America in their opening contest, the Proteas showed their class against the defending world champions.

Meanwhile, former India player Navjot Singh Sidhu slammed Ottneil Baartman for poor bowling. He had conceded just 6 runs from his first two overs but his figures became 3-0-27-1 after another six deliveries. South Africa captain Aiden Markram didn’t complete his quota of overs.

“It is like committing suicide. Ottneil Baartman comitted suicide today against England. They were out of the game with South Africa ahead but Baartman allowed them to almost win this match. He was unable to land the ball on the pitch and you can’t do it as a bowler. Ottneil was interested in getting hit for boundaries.

“I didn’t understand why he bowled full toss after full toss. Liam Livingstone and Harry Brook were unable to time the ball before his over and it was his over that gave them a chance,” Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Star Sports.

Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock was named the Player of the Match for scoring a fifty.
