“So sad we can’t see you all play in Australia”: Usman Khawaja pays special tribute to Afghanistan after famous win over Mitchell Marsh’s team

Australia don’t bilateral matches against Afghanistan after Taliban took over the sub-continent nation and banned women from sports and other fields. Afghanistan were due to play a Test match in Australia but it was cancelled and when Australia were supposed to visit the UAE for white-ball games, the series was called off.

Rashid Khan had slammed Cricket Australia and even threatend to stop playing in the Big Bash League. The leading players of Afghanistan issued similar warnings.

Afghan cricketers wanted to prove themselves in front of the Aussies and they did it in style during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Afghanistan defeated the Mitchell Marsh-led team by 21 runs in Super 8 clash. Australia couldn’t chase 149 runs and were bowled out for 127 in 19.2 overs.

Usman Khawaja, who plays as an opener for Australia in Test cricket, paid special tribute to Rashid’s team after memorable victory over the 2021 T20 champions.

“Well done Brother. Better team on the day. You boys are an inspiration for so many back home and abroad. So sad we can’t see you all play in Australia,” Usman Khawaja wrote on X.

Gulbadin Naib took 4 wickets, while Naveen Ul Haq dismissed 3 batters. Earlier, fifties by Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zardan took the score to 148/6.
