Rohit Sharma: In the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024, India defeated Australia by 24 runs and confirmed its place in the semi-finals. With this win
Team India's winning streak continues and Rohit and company will face England in the second semi-final of the tournament on June 27. Before this big match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has issued a warning to the English. Let us tell you what he has said?
After winning the match against Australia, Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that they will continue the same kind of performance in the semi-final against England. Hitman said during the post-match presentation,
“This win is very satisfying, especially the way we played today. We knew the danger of the match against Australia, but we kept doing the things we know best. We can take a lot of confidence from this match. 200 runs is definitely a good score, but when you are playing on a ground where the wind is blowing, anything is possible, but I thought we used the conditions very well.”
“It was great to see how we were progressing in the middle overs and getting wickets as well. We understand Kuldeep’s strengths, but you have to use him when needed. The pitches in New York were favourable for fast bowlers, but we knew he would play a big role later on.”
“We don't want to do anything different in the semi-finals and finals, we want to play in the same way, understand who needs to do what in a situation. So far we have been doing this consistently and we have to try the same in the semi-finals as well.”
Rohit Sharma made a big contribution in taking India to a big score. He played an innings of 92 runs with the help of 8 sixes and 7 fours in just 41 balls. He also received the Player of the Match award for this innings. After the match ended, Hitman said about his batting,
“I thought from the very first over that they have changed their plan by bowling against the wind, so I will have to play shots on the off side as well. You have to keep the wind blowing in mind and understand that the bowlers are also smart and set traps on all sides of the field. But when you keep your mind open and don't think about just one shot, you can reach all areas of the field.”
“It was a good wicket and you want to try and give yourself the backing to play the big shots. I have been trying to do that for the last couple of years and I am glad it worked out today. Fifties and centuries don’t matter, I wanted to bat at a fast pace and keep going.”
India scored a huge score of 205/5 runs in 20 overs. Apart from Hitman, Suryakumar Yadav contributed 31 (16), Shivam Dubey 28 (22) and Hardik Pandya 27* (17). While chasing this huge target, only 2 batsmen for Australia were able to cross the 20-run mark. Travis Head scored 76 runs in 43 balls, while captain Mitchell Marsh scored 37 runs in 28 balls. This is the reason why the whole team could score only 181/7 runs in 20 overs and India won the match by 24 runs.
