In fact, Australia's journey in this World Cup ended with Afghanistan's victory over Bangladesh in the Super-8 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In this World Cup, the Kangaroos played their last match against India, in which they lost by 24 runs. This match proved to be the last match of the left-handed batsman's career and he could score only 6 runs in this match. Let us tell you that even before this, Warner had announced his retirement from Test and ODI cricket. Ponting has given a big statement during a conversation with the ICC on his retirement.
He said, “I put my hand on his shoulder and said that you sit alone one night and think about what you have done for Australia in all three formats. We know that he had already retired from Test cricket and it will be difficult for Australia to find a player like that who has had such a big impact on the game. I have played cricket with him and have also been his coach in the IPL in the last few years and I love being with him very much.”
Ponting further said that “Warner should be proud of what he has done for Australia. The team will definitely miss him on and off the field. His career has been great in all formats. First Test cricket and then ODI and now he has left T20 cricket as well. We had become used to watching him play. When a player plays for a long time and you lose him, it is a bit different.”
