The Taliban thanked India after Afghanistan made it to the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The sub-continent team has reached the last four of an ICC tournament for the first time in their history.

Afghanistan became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council two decades ago and is the 10th team in the history to qualify for the semi-finals of the World Cup (ODI or T20).

India has played a key role in Afghanistan’s success in cricket. Afghans were allotted grounds in Greater Noida, Lucknow and Dehradun to play their international matches.

The Taliban acknowledged India’s contribution and expressed their gratitude for it.

“We thank India for their continuous support to Afghanistan cricket. We appreciate that,” Taliban’s head of the political office Suhail Shaheen told Wion News.

Afghanistan will play a three-match ODI and T20I series against Bangladesh in Noida and Kanpur next month.

Afghanistan cricket team has been sponsored by the Indian companies. Their players compete regularly in the Indian Premier League.
