After declaring their innings at a mammoth score of 603/6, Harmanpreet Kaur's side registered the highest team score in the history of women's Test cricket and surpassed the previous best score of 575/9 made by Australia in Perth earlier this year.

The two opening batsmen, Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, played the biggest role in the Indian women's team creating history. Both of them started the innings and made a brilliant partnership of 292 runs for the first wicket, which is also the biggest opening partnership in women's Test cricket till date. Verma's historic innings of 205 runs and Mandhana's contribution of 149 runs laid the foundation for Team India's huge score.

Not only this, the Indian batsmen maintained their dominance over the South African bowling attack, in which Jemima Rodrigues played a crucial innings of 55 runs. Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and wicketkeeper-batsman Richa Ghosh returned to the pavilion unbeaten, both of them scored half-centuries.

The Indian women's team even broke the highest team score in history on the first day of a Test match, where the hosts made 525 for 4 against the Proteas on Friday and their score surpassed the previous record of the Sri Lankan men's team, who made 509 for 9 against Bangladesh in Colombo in 2002.

Shefali Verma shines in Test

Shefali Verma, who created many records by scoring the first century of her international career, has now created a new history by scoring a double century. By scoring a double century in just 200 balls, Shefali has become the fastest player to score a double century in women's cricket.

Earlier, this record was in the name of Australia's Annabel Sutherland. In 2024 itself, she scored a double century in 248 balls against South Africa in the month of February, while before her Australia's Karen Rolton had achieved this feat in 306 balls against England in 2001.
