Former India cricketer Piyush Chawla complimented Rohit Sharma‘s captaincy, citing the India skipper’s exemplary leadership during their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Chawla believes this has instilled great confidence in the team ahead of the final against South Africa.

The spinner says India should now focus on their long-held goal of winning an ICC trophy, having performed exceptionally well throughout the tournament. After thrashing England in a one-sided semi-final on June 27, Rohit Sharma has the chance to clinch his first ICC title as India’s captain.

Rohit’s explosive batting at the top of India’s lineup has been a pivotal factor in their consistent success throughout this T20 World Cup. Like South Africa, India will enter the final undefeated and hoping to secure a similar outcome in Barbados. This presents India with an opportunity to avenge their ODI World Cup 2023 disappointment and end their 13-year drought for an ICC trophy.

“Rohit has established top level of leadership for the India team. As I’ve mentioned before, he is not just a captain, but a true leader.

When a leader sets such an example, the rest of the team naturally follows suit. This is precisely what we’ve been witnessing with Rohit’s influence on the India squad,” claimed Chawla on Star Sports.

“India’s performance in this tournament has demonstrated that they are not reliant on just one or two key players. Instead, the entire team has stepped up, with everyone contributing and performing well. This collective effort has been instrumental to their success. The team’s confidence is clearly high, as evidenced by their strong and consistent performances throughout the tournament,” he added.

Rohit will look forward to put his hands on the first ICC trophy under his leadership as India gear up to face South Africa in the T20 World Cup final.
