After this, Kohli handled one end and took India to a respectable score. After winning the final match, Virat has said goodbye to this format and now he will not be seen playing T20 cricket. In the post-match presentation, Virat announced his retirement from this format.
He said, “This is what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel like you can't run and it happens, God is great. Just the opportunity, now or never situation. This was my last T20 match playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup. This was my last T20 match for India. Yes, I had it as an open secret. Not something I was going to announce even if we had lost. It's time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward and do wonders as we have seen them do in the IPL.”
Virat further said that “I have no doubt that they will keep the flag high and take this team forward from here. It has been a long wait for us to win an ICC tournament. It is not just me alone. You look at a player like Rohit, he has played 9 T20 World Cups and this is my sixth World Cup. Now I will not play for India in this format anymore.”
