Indian captain Rohit Sharma has continued to enter record books in terms of hitting sixes. The veteran batter reached newer heights over the last few months. He attained different milestones (sixes) in the Indian Premier League, T20 cricket, international cricket across formats, T20Is and now the ICC T20 World Cup. In a high-octane ICC T20 World Cup Cup 2024 semi-final 2 clash against England in Guyana, Rohit joined Chris Gayle in terms of becoming the second batter to hit 50 sixes in the competition’s history. Meanwhile, Rohit also surpassed Mahela Jayawardene to become the batter with most fours in the competition.
Rohit smacked six fours and two sixes in his knock of 57 against the Three Lions. India scored 171/7 in 20 overs as Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav added 73 runs for the 3rd wicket. In response, England suffered a 68-run defeat. Jos Buttler’s men managed 103/10. Kuldeep Yadav (3/19) and Axar Patel (3/23) were ruthless. India reached their 3rd T20 World Cup final and will play South Africa in the summit clash. The match will be held on June 29.

Chris Gayle – 63 sixes
Former West Indies legend Chris Gayle owns the record for the most sixes in T20 World Cup history. The celebrated opener made his presence felt with 63 sixes from 33 matches. Gayle scored 965 runs at 34.46. He hit two tons and 7 fifties with a strike rate worth 142.75. Gayle smashed a total of 124 sixes in T20Is for the West Indies. He scored 1899 runs in T20Is. Overall, Gayle owns the most sixes in T20 history. He is the only player with 1000-plus sixes (1056).
Rohit Sharma – 50 sixes
Rohit, who recently became the first player with 600 international sixes and 200 T20I maximums, has raced to 50 maximums in T20 World Cups. Rohit, who has played 46 T20 World Cup games, is the second-highest scorer. He owns 1211 runs at 35.61 with the help of 12 fifties. His strike rate is 132.78. In T20Is, Rohit extended his tally to 205 sixes. He has smashed 4222 runs at 32.22. He has five tons and 32 fifties under his belt. Overall, Rohit has raced to 525 sixes in the 20-over format.
Jos Buttler – 43 sixes
England’s Jos Buttler is third in terms of most T20 World Cup sixes. Buttler has smashed a tally of 43 maximums from 35 matches. In the match versus India, he became the 4th player in T20 World Cup history to smash 1000-plus runs. Buttler owns 1013 runs at 42.20. Buttler is known for his meticulous batting. The versatile England skipper has smoked 137 sixes so far in T20Is. He is England’s highest scorer with 3264 runs. Recently, Buttler became the first England batter to smoke 500 T20 maximums.
David Warner – 40 sixes
David Warner has bid adieu to International cricket. Warner left a lasting impression in T20 World Cup history, smashing the highest number of sixes for Australia. He hit 40 sixes – 4th-highest among batters. Warner remains Australia’s top scorer in the competition with 984 runs at 25.89. Warner’s T20I career saw him score 3277 runs from 110 matches at 33.43. He smashed 122 sixes in T20Is. Warner, who will be seen playing T20 cricket, has clobbered 453 maximums in the format.
Yuvraj Singh – 33 sixes
Former Indian stalwart Yuvraj Singh shone in the T20 World Cup. The southpaw smashed 33 sixes from 31 matches at 23,72. His strike rate was 128.91. Yuvraj went on to hit four fifties. He holds the record of smashing Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over in the inaugural 2007 edition. Overall, he scored 1177 runs in T20Is, hitting 74 sixes. In T20s, Yuvraj’s count reads 261 maximums. He finished with 4857 runs at 25.69.
Virat Kohli – 35 sixes
Virat Kohli endured a terrible T20 World Cup campaign before the final with the bat. He scored 75 runs but managed 76 runs off 59 balls, laced with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Kohli, who remains the top scorer in the competition’s history, owns 35 sixes from 35 matches. He owns 1292 runs. He holds the distinction of hitting the most fifties (15). Kohli is the second-highest scorer in T20Is. He has 4188 runs. He has smoked 124 sixes for Team India in T20Is. Overall in the 20-over format, the 35-year-old star owns 416 sixes. He has scored over 12800 runs.
Other batters who own 30 or more sixes in the T20 World Cup are Shane Watson (31 sixes), Glenn Maxwell (30 sixes) and AB de Villiers (30 sixes).
