After winning the T20 World Cup title, Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah has set new goals for Team India. According to Shah, after retiring from T20I cricket, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja will now show their strength in the Champions Trophy to be played in Pakistan in 2025. Talking to PTI, the BCCI secretary has now asked Team India to focus on the Champions Trophy and the World Test Championship. Along with this, he stressed that the senior players of the team will be present in this mega tournament.
“The way this team is progressing, our target is to win the World Test Championship final and the Champions Trophy title. A similar team will play there as well. Senior players will be there,” PTI quoted Jay Shah as saying.
Shah further said, “Last year and here in Barbados, the same captain was there. We won all the matches except the final in 2023 because Australia performed brilliantly. This time our team worked even harder and performed better to win the World Cup title. If you look at other teams, experience matters. From Rohit to Virat, everyone performed brilliantly. Experience makes a lot of difference. You cannot experiment too much in the World Cup. A good player knows when to say goodbye to the game, we saw this yesterday. If you look at Rohit's strike rate, it is better than many young players.”
For your information, let us tell you that Pakistan is the host of the Champions Trophy to be played next year and Jay Shah has confirmed that the Indian team will participate in this tournament. In such a situation, if the Indian team visits Pakistan, then Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma can be seen playing in Pakistan for the first time. However, it is not yet confirmed whether the Champions Trophy will be played under the hybrid model or Pakistan will host the entire tournament in its country.
