Parthiv Patel has lambasted Pakistan captain Babar Azam, calling him selfish. The Pakistan team is facing massive flak for their failure in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Babar-led side was eliminated from the group stage. Babar was brought back as the captain ahead of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States of America.

During the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, Saim Ayub replaced Babar as an opener, with the latter moving down to the No. 3 spot. However, Babar took over the opening slot before the mega event. However, he couldn’t make any impact.

Parthiv took a dig at Babar and said that Fakhar Zaman had to bat lower down the order as Babar was more interested to play as the opener.

“Skipper wanted to open, so Fakhar was demoted. When the captain is selfish, there is no chance,” Parthiv said.

“Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and others have highlighted this issue,” Parthiv added.

Parthiv further said that Pakistan are lacking good players in the shortest format.

“They don’t have good players in T20 format. Batters are scoring runs at a strike rate of 150-160 but Pakistan cricketers are still in the 120s. They are behind other international teams,” he added.

Despite taking over the captaincy from Shaheen Afridi, Babar looked clueless during the World Cup. The Pakistan side even lost to the USA.
